Privacy Policy

wipestory is built to be private by default. This policy explains, in plain language, what the app does and does not do with your information.

The short version

wipestory runs entirely on your device. It does not require an account, it does not upload your photos or screenshots anywhere, and it does not collect personal data about you.

Access to your photos

To do its job, wipestory asks for permission to access your photo library. This access is used only on your device to:

Find the screenshots in your library so you can review them;
Show them to you inside the app; and
Delete the ones you choose to remove.

Your photos and screenshots are never copied off your device, never uploaded to any server, and never shared with us or anyone else. If you deny photo access, the app cannot function, but no data is collected either way.

Deleting screenshots

When you delete screenshots, wipestory uses Apple's standard Photos system to move them to your "Recently Deleted" album, where they remain recoverable for 30 days before iOS removes them permanently. wipestory never deletes anything without your action.

Personal data

wipestory does not collect personal information. There is no account, and we never know who you are. Your cleanup progress and statistics (such as how many screenshots you've cleared) are stored only on your device and are removed if you delete the app.

Anonymous usage analytics

To understand how the app is used and where it can be improved, wipestory records a small number of anonymous, aggregate events — for example, that onboarding was completed, or that a batch of screenshots was deleted (as a count). These events:

Never include your photos, screenshots, or their contents;
Never include your name, email, or any personal identifier;
Are not linked to your identity and are not used to track you across other apps or services.

This analytics processing is provided by PostHog, acting on our behalf. An anonymous, randomly generated identifier is used only to group events into sessions for aggregate statistics. You cannot be personally identified from this data.

Third parties

The only third party that processes any data is our analytics provider, PostHog, and only the anonymous usage events described above. We do not sell your data, and we do not use advertising or cross-app tracking. If this ever changes, this policy will be updated before any such feature is enabled.

Children

wipestory does not collect data from anyone, including children, and contains no accounts or user-generated content.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we'll revise the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
